PRIVATE CHARTERS TO CONTADORA AND THE PEARL ISLANDS

On a typical five day / four night’s charter to the Pearls Islands, we recommend leaving the Flamenco Marina at around 10:00 AM in order to arrive at the bird sanctuary of Pacheca Island at around noon. There, options include sunbathing on its lovely beach, or walking along its birdwatcher’s path to observe from close-up different kind of birds in their natural protected habitat. The best view of the whole archipelago is from Pacheca’s highest point (150 feet). After that first stopover you may want to hop to the nearby Island of Bartolomé, where the “Survivors” filmed their famous Show. Beach combing and snorkelling among colorful tropical fish are the options there. Before dawn you may wish to discover Contadora, the Island of the “rich and famous” and perhaps take a stroll, or do some shopping. Cocktails at sunset, followed by a gourmet dinner either aboard, or in one of the Island’s fine restaurants are part of the whole Contadora experience. Star watching is the preferred after dinner activity. Backgammon, or chess playing, movie watching, or just sleeping in your comfortable quarters are other popular alternatives.

The second day starts with breakfast aboard and may be followed by snorkelling and (if desired) sunbathing at Playa de las Suecas, the only official clothing-optional beach of Central America. At noon, we propose to take you to Chapera Island, which is blessed with two of the best beaches of the whole Pearl Islands.
Incidentally, snorkelling there is absolutely fabulous; but since it is a popular spot among world cruising yachtsmen you may sometimes find as many as one or two other yachts anchored there. At night you may decide either to return to Contadora, or instead spend the night in the quiet anchorage of the well-protected cove of nearby Casaya Island.

The third day starts, as usual, with breakfast aboard, followed by a 20 nautical miles sail to the Island of San José, which is a natural wild life reserve and home to the world renown resort of Hacienda del Mar. A tour of the Island on a 4X4 is a must and so are the exotic cocktails prepared by Mr. Atchoom, arguably the best bartender of Panama. Freshly caught lobsters, “patacones” and other local specialities are served for lunch in a most enjoyable seawater poolside setting. Since the anchorage there is sometimes a little uncomfortable, you may wish to sail to the nearby island of Pedro Gonzalez where the mooring is excellent and spend a good night sleep in front of Playa La Cruz. Usually, our native steward will climb up a coconut tree and bring back some coconuts to prepare a cocktail called “agua de pipa con ron”. After a nice dinner, the absolute darkness around allows for spectacular star watching.

The fourth day starts with the usual breakfast and then you may wish to head to the small and totally deserted island of Fuenche, where you can enjoy Robinson Crusoe’s castaway lifestyle for a while… On the way, it is not unusual to observe whales and dolphins. Actually, the Pearls archipelago is the meeting and mating spot for whales from both North and South America. On your way back you will be cruising between Isla del Rey - the Pearls largest Island and Viveros - a developing Island whose luxury resort is still under construction and perhaps you may want to stop at Boyarena - a sand bank with a most unusual feature - naturally pierced stones from which the native make collars!

On the fifth day, you may want us to take you back to Panama-City, but not without taking a last dip in the clear waters around Mogo Mogo, or Chapera. However, if you want more of the same, we just fly-in some more gourmet food and go on serving you to the best of our ability for your pleasure.
